Colour Analysis Without the Jargon: Find Your Season in Ten Minutes
Warm, cool, deep, soft — the vocabulary is intimidating and mostly unnecessary. Three simple tests tell you almost everything.
Why colour matters more than cut
The wrong colour near your face adds shadow. The right one makes skin look even and eyes look brighter — no product required.
Test one: the vein test
In daylight, look at the inside of your wrist. Blue-violet veins lean cool. Green-olive veins lean warm. A mix means you are neutral and can wear both if you keep the intensity right.
Test two: metals
Hold gold and silver against your jaw in natural light. Gold flattering means warm. Silver flattering means cool. If both look fine, you are neutral — choose by outfit, not by rule.
Test three: contrast
Photograph yourself in daylight and convert the photo to black and white. High contrast between hair, skin and eyes means you suit sharp, saturated combinations. Low contrast means blended, tonal dressing will read more expensive on you.
Turning it into a wardrobe
Pick four core colours for outerwear and trousers, three mid-tones for knitwear, and two accents for scarves and jewellery. Anything you own that fails all three tests should live away from your face — as a skirt, trouser or bag.
